What do I think about……..(fill in the blank)?

Ever have people ask you that question? “What do you think about (fill in the blank)? Yeah, me too. Anyway, being that I am somewhat of an outspoken kinda guy I try not to stir up to much trouble by my beliefs. Of course the two things I am most passionate about in life are the two things you are never supposed to talk about at a dinner party……politics and religion.

There are times that I wonder why I have such a passion for politics. I understand being passionate about my faith in Christ. That’s a given! I love Jesus and love to share Him with others in any way I can. Whether serving in my community or at my church I love being able to share my faith in ways that help those around me. Anyway, with that I often wonder about my passion for politics. Let me rephrase that….it’s more a passion about making sure that we get truth out of our public officials and less corruption in government. It’s also about making sure that we as a nation stay true to the intents of our Founding Fathers as much as possible. I understand advancement, but are we advancing at the cost of true education, are we advancing at the cost of human life, are we advancing and really becoming less human?

I guess I am a social justice kinda guy. I believe that as a Christian I must stand up for those that are being oppressed by others, whether that is in China, Darfur, or in my own country and my own backyard. I look back over history and see that some of the greatest social movements were sparked by those in the church (Ex: Civil Rights, Reformation, Women’s rights, etc.). Anyway, with the world going crazy and America in a seemingly endless war I think there comes a time when God raises up men and women to stand for those who can’t stand for themselves. People like Dino Rizzo, Matthew Barnett, Martin Luther King Jr., U2, etc.

Maybe that’s what’s happening in me. A preparation for being someone that is a voice for the voiceless. We will see. Until next time.

Much love,

Shawn

  1. bring it, shawn. the church has got to take the lead in this stuff. we should define culture rather than blindly follow it.

was good to see you last week finally. you should be careful being seen in public with geoff too much though.
